Women Attorneys Encourage Community to Fight Hunger

What do you call hundreds of Kansas’ most prominent lawyers helping local food pantries?

FOOD FROM THE BAR!

The Kansas Women Attorneys Association has organized the legal community to fight hunger in Kansas with a statewide food drive. We kickoff the food drive TODAY, April 18 and it will run through May 13, 2011. In Johnson County, the Food From the Bar Campaign will raise funds and food for the Blue Valley Multi-Service Center pantry. In Wyandotte County, the food will benefit Cross-lines.

Rising food prices and continued unemployment bring increased demands on our local food pantries. The increased need threatens to strip our pantry shelves, with children and the elderly most at risk of going hungry.

According to the 2010 Hunger in America Survey of Kansas Food Bank recipients:

17% of children are sometimes or often go without eating

40% of adults reported going a whole day without eating due to lack of enough money for food each month

Donation bins can be found throughout the State. If you are in the neighborhood, drop by our office to make a donation — we would love to say “Thank You” in person.

If you would like to make a virtual donation, visit www.foodfromthebar.harvesters.org. For more information, including bin locations contact Susan Berson.
