Who knew?

Being read to so is nice.

Kids that ask for a book each night…

I am late to the game.

Podcasts:

I have listened to a few podcasts here and there over the last years. During COVID and Zoom Meetings, one of the Book Clubs I was in used a Podcast for discussion each week. That’s how it started.

Since then, I mostly just have one playing in the background when I am working on something else. Do I catch everything? No. That’s kind of what I like about them. I don’t have to catch every word. I feel like I get enough information to be learning something during my multitask, but no overwhelm or guilt.

Audiobooks:

BUT – just last month I listened to my FIRST audiobook and I am HOOKED!

So, just six minutes of reading can be enough to reduce stress levels by more than two thirds, according to research from the University of Sussex. Reading is a wonderful escape into our imaginations, it teaches us about new worlds, experiences, scenarios and has been proven to be good for our wellbeing.

When your mind does not allow you to concentrate, you are anxious, a panic attack is difficult to regain control of, you can’t get to sleep, you just don’t feel like you have the energy – audiobooks are an alternative that allows you to enjoy the awesome benefits of reading!

I have done most of my listening through our local (JoCo) Library app Libby.

Being read to allows you to be simply engage. Embrace what is being said. Take it in. Accept that it is being spoken to and for you, alone.

It is a comfort. It is a relief.
