We had a great time at the 23rd Annual Kansas Women Attorneys Conference in Lindsborg this year. The theme was “Leadership: Charting Our Course.”
Thursday started with the Solo and Small Firm lunch.
After getting registered and settled in to our dorm we got to enjoy the ever famous lemon bars! Our first Plenary Session was Conflicts of Interest, presented by Kathy Bussing and Cynthia Grimes. 
Kathy is of Counsel to Husch Blackwell in Kansas City, MO. She has extensive experience in bankruptcy matters, including counseling debtors and creditors in Chapter 11 reorganizations and representing creditors in international energy industry bankruptcies. Kansas Bankruptcy Attorney Cynthia is a Member of Grimes and Rebein, LLC and focuses on Bankruptcy Reorganization, Bankruptcy Litigation and Commercial Workouts. They examined the conflict of interest rules and how they impact everyday practice.
Our second Plenary Session was Practicing Law in the 21st Century – A Woman Lawyer’s Plan of Action. Mira Mdivani, Mary Beth Blake and Tracy Bornman provided valuable information about ways to plan for and to demonstrate good practice management skills.
The day ended with keynote speaker Denise Brosseau, CEO of Well-Connected Leader. She discussed how to move from Leader to Thought Leader in our jobs and everyday lives.
Friday morning’s Plenary Session was entertaining and informative as the Appellate All-Star Review panel made up of Judge Tom Malone, Chief Judge Richard D. Green, and Judge Michael Buser discussed cases of interest that were decided in the last 12 months. 
After a day full of breakout sessions covering topics from Malpractice, Traffic Court, Kansas Fraudulent Transfer Act, and Bankruptcy, to Breaking Issues for LGBT Clients our final Plenary Session was Trends in the Federal Courts. Judge Karen Humphreys discussed the Kan-Trac program. Kansas Bankruptcy Court Judge Robert Nugent 
and Judge Thomas Marten talked about growing trends and issues regarding the Courts, budget issues, and recent case decisions and how the Judges expect those decisions to impact future cases.
Saturday brought additional breakout sessions about Work Comp, Durable Powers of Attorney, Caring for Aging Parents, and Medical Malpractice. We ended our Conference with a final Plenary Session on how to deal with difficult Counsel.
The Lindsborg Conference is always a wonderful time to reconnect with others in the legal field, make new friends, and learn new information through interesting perspectives.
