Meditation:

A Mom trying to manage stress.

I read an article recently about meditation and how its popularity continues to increase as more people discover its many health benefits. I can understand that.

Benefits of Meditation

Stress reduction is one of the most common reasons people try meditation. It has been shown that “mindfulness meditation” reduces inflammation caused by stress.

It can also help control anxiety. Why? In part, less stress – means less anxiety. In addition, if you are more mindful you are likely able to cope when a situation arises.

Some forms of meditation can promote your emotional health. When meditating symptoms of depression improve, along with self-image. We see, hear, experience so much — who doesn’t need a more positive outlook on life?

Through meditation, you may grow into your best self. As you self-reflect and get to know yourself better you also have the opportunity to start making positive changes.

Meditation can lengthen your attention span. *squirrel* As you meditate over time, your mind will wander less and you will be able to redirect your focus.

This new focus you gain may aid in fighting age-related memory loss. Keep your mind young with clarity of thinking.

In addition, when you become better able to control your racing thoughts, you can redirect them. This means relaxing, releasing tension and placing yourself in peaceful sleep when needed.

My Experience

One of the best things about meditation? You can do it anywhere. You don’t have to have any special equipment and it only takes a couple minutes a day.

There are various types out there (for free and charge). You should experiment and see what speaks to you! And what speaks to you today, might not speak to you tomorrow.

I’m currently using an app called “Let’s Meditate” from the Play Store (free). I like it because I’m fairly new to meditation and there are so many options.

I like to mix it up. There is a Beginner’s Guide. There is guided mediation under various categories, such as: Learn, Relax, and Sleep. I’ve found that guided works well for me at this time as my mind does still wander and I find it helpful to be brought back to focus.

Meditation is something everyone can do to improve their mental and emotional heath and reduce stress. Set aside 15 minutes for you, today – and every day. You are certainly worth it!
