Be proactive. There are things that you can do NOW, so don’t wait until you receive your first bill.

Restarting Payments:

  • You should receive your first bill at least 21 days before your due date
  • Make sure that your contact information is up to date with your servicer and on StudentAid.gov

Repayment:

  • Explore the many opportunities that are currently available to borrower’s currently
    • You may qualify for $0/mo payments
    • Find out if your loans NEED to be consolidated by the end of the year (FFEL)
  • Compare repayment plan options using StudentLoan.gov’s Loan Simulator

Forgiveness:

  • Review options for forgiveness that are currently available for borrowers
  • You may qualify for forgiveness due to:
    • public service
    • disability
    • time in repayment
    • closed university
    • other
  • Depending on your situation, you may want to consider filing an Adversary proceeding within a Bankruptcy case to Discharge your student loans.
